Amazon's Drone Delivery Is Still a Joke After Ten Years

In 2013, Jeff Bezos appeared on 60 Minutes. He showed a drone delivering a package. He said Amazon Prime Air would start in five years. That was eleven years ago.

Today, Amazon drones deliver in two small towns. College Station, Texas. Lockeford, California. They drop packages in backyards. They avoid people and pets. The service is slow. Limited. Expensive.

What went wrong? Regulation. The FAA is cautious. Batteries are heavy. Weather is unpredictable. People shoot at drones. Drones crash. The technology works in demos. It fails in reality.

For beginners, do not wait for drone delivery. It will not come to your city soon. Maybe never. The future of delivery is still trucks. Boring. Reliable. Cheap. Amazon tried to skip that reality. Reality won.
