Wildlife in India: A Safari in Ranthambore
Seeing a tiger in the wild was a childhood dream, and Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan made it happen. The park is one of the best places in India to spot tigers, and it is well organized for tourists. I booked two safaris, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The morning safari started before sunrise. We drove into the park in an open jeep with a guide. The air was cool, and the forest was waking up. We saw deer, monkeys, and a variety of birds before we finally got the alert that a tiger had been spotted. Our driver sped to the location, and there she was, a tigress walking along a dirt track, completely unfazed by the line of jeeps watching her. She was magnificent. The afternoon safari was quieter, but we did see a leopard lounging on a rock. Even if you do not see a tiger, the park is beautiful, with ancient ruins scattered throughout the jungle. My advice is to book your safaris well in advance, especially if you are traveling during peak season. And be patient. The tigers are wild animals, so there is no guarantee. But the experience of being in the jungle is worth it regardless.
