It happened to me in Denver during a snowstorm. The lines at the customer service desk were hours long. I learned that you don’t get in that line. You call the airline’s 1-800 number immediately while you walk to the lounge or find a quiet corner. Also, use the airline’s app to rebook yourself. Often, you can change your flight before the person in front of you even reaches the desk. If you’re stuck overnight, ask for a hotel voucher. Be polite but firm. And always travel with a change of clothes in your carry-on. That’s a lesson I only needed to learn once.
