Everyone's obsessed with becoming an AI prompt engineer or building the next ChatGPT killer. Meanwhile, there's a boring, unsexy job that's printing money right now and hardly anyone is doing it.
AI content editor. Sounds fancy. It's not. Here's what I actually do: companies generate blog posts, product descriptions, and social media captions using AI. Then they realize AI writes like a robot having an existential crisis. They need a human to make it sound, well, human. That's where I come in.
I charge $75 to take a 2,000-word AI-generated article and fix the weird parts. You know what I mean. The "in today's rapidly evolving digital landscape" openings. The "it is important to note that" sentences. The random bullet points that go nowhere. I cut all that garbage, add some personality, maybe a bad joke or two, and send it back. Takes me an hour tops.
How do you find these clients? Easy. Go on Upwork or Fiverr and search for "SEO content" or "blog writing." Half those sellers are using AI and passing it off as human. They know it. You know it. Offer to edit their output for a flat fee. Most will say yes because they're drowning in work.
Another angle? Local businesses. Walk into any marketing agency that serves plumbers, roofers, dentists. Their content is pure AI sludge. Show them one before-and-after sample. I landed three regular clients in one week doing exactly this. Each pays me $500 a month for 8-10 articles.
The skill you need? Being a decent writer who can spot robotic language. That's it. You don't need a degree. You don't need experience. You just need taste. Can you tell when something sounds fake? Congratulations, you're qualified.
By 2026, more content will be AI-generated than human-written. Someone has to clean up the mess. Might as well be you getting paid for it.
Start today. Take any AI-generated text you find online. Rewrite one paragraph to sound like a real person said it. That's your portfolio. Show that to five business owners. One will say yes. Then you're in business.
