I'm lazy. Like, really lazy. So when I built my AI side hustle, I wanted it to work while I slept. Took about six weeks to figure out, but now I've got a system that brings in $200 on a good day and $80 on a bad one. Here's exactly how it works.
The setup is stupid simple. I find local service businesses with terrible websites. Think carpet cleaners, handymen, pressure washers. Their "blog" section is either empty or has three posts from 2019 about "the importance of clean carpets."
I offer them a deal. $300 per month for four blog posts optimized for local search. But here's the lazy part — I don't write anything. I set up an automated workflow that scrapes questions from Reddit and Quora about their industry, feeds those questions into Claude with their business info, and generates a helpful blog post answering each question.
The posts aren't Shakespeare. They're useful. "How much does carpet cleaning cost in Austin?" "Can you remove red wine stains from a beige carpet?" Real questions real people type into Google. My AI system answers them clearly with their business mentioned naturally.
I spend maybe 2 hours total per client per month. One hour setting up the question research, one hour reviewing posts before they go live. The AI does everything else. At $300 per client, I need about 20 clients to hit $6,000 a month. I have 14 right now. Getting there.
How do you find these clients? Cold email. I know, I know. Everyone hates cold email. But here's a template that actually gets replies: "Hey [Name], saw your website hasn't had a new blog post since August. I help [industry] businesses show up on Google without you lifting a finger. Here's a free sample blog post I wrote for you using your services. No catch. If you like it, let's talk. If not, ignore this."
Include a real sample. Not a template. Actually write one post for them for free. Costs you 20 minutes. I close about 1 in 10 of these emails. That's insane for cold outreach.
The beauty of this system? Once it's running, it's mostly hands-off. I check in once a week, make sure nothing broke, collect payments. The rest of the time I'm hiking or playing video games.
Will this work in 2026? Probably even better. Local SEO is only getting more competitive. Small business owners are more overwhelmed than ever. They need help but can't afford a full agency. You're the perfect middle ground.
Start with one free sample for one local business this week. Just one. See what happens.
