Finance and FinTech: Beyond Wall Street

A diverse team working on financial technology in a modern office
FinTech Careers
When I graduated with a finance degree, I thought I had to move to New York and grind it out on Wall Street. The burnout stories scared me. Luckily, I discovered the FinTech scene in Charlotte, North Carolina. It’s now the second-largest banking center in the US, but with a much more laid-back vibe. Financial technology is disrupting traditional banking, and it’s creating a ton of jobs. I work as a product manager for a mobile banking app. It combines my finance background with tech skills. There’s a huge demand for compliance officers, financial analysts, blockchain developers, and data scientists. You don’t have to be a quant to get in. Strong analytical skills and a willingness to learn about new technologies can get you far. The industry pays incredibly well, and there are hubs popping up all over the country, not just in NYC or San Francisco. If you’re good with numbers and enjoy innovation, look into FinTech. It feels like being at the forefront of how money moves.
