Creative Writing Prompts to Spark Inspiration
Staring at a blank page is every writer’s hurdle. Prompts can unlock ideas you didn’t know were there. Try this: write about a character who finds an old letter addressed to them but postmarked 50 years ago. Or describe a world where memories are bought and sold. Another prompt: start with the sentence, “The last thing I expected to find in my grandmother’s attic was…” Set a timer for 10 minutes and don’t stop to edit—let it be messy. Sometimes constraints help: write a story that takes place entirely in an elevator. The goal is to bypass your inner critic and just create. You can always refine later, but you can’t edit a blank page.
