Phase 2
Ant-Man (2015): Peyton Reed's Heist Comedy with Heart
Ant-Man arrived after the ambitious Age of Ultron, offering a smaller-scale, character-driven palette cleanser. Edgar Wright's original vision was reshaped by Peyton Reed, but the film retains Wright's comedic sensibilities. Paul Rudd is perfectly cast as Scott Lang, a master thief trying to go straight who becomes Ant-Man under the mentorship of Hank Pym (Michael Douglas). The film is a heist comedy—the team must break into a heavily guarded facility to prevent Pym's former protégé (Corey Stoll's Yellowjacket) from weaponizing shrinking technology. The humor is consistent, and the action is inventive, particularly the micro-scale fights in a child's room. The film also introduced Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and set up the Wasp. The post-credits scenes teased Captain America: Civil War. Ant-Man proved that the MCU could make any hero work, no matter how silly the concept. Ant-Man is available on Disney+ Hotstar. For free viewing, many mobile plans include Disney+ subscriptions. Digital rentals are available on YouTube Movies and Apple TV. The film is also broadcast on television channels like Star Movies and Sony Pix.
