Aerospace and Defense: Reaching for the Stars
Growing up in Florida, I always watched rockets launch from Cape Canaveral. I never thought I’d be part of that world. But after getting an associate degree in avionics, I landed a job with a major aerospace contractor. The aerospace and defense industry is a massive employer in states like Alabama, Texas, Florida, and California. We’re in a new space race, and it’s creating jobs. We need engineers, sure, but also skilled machinists, welders, software developers, and logistics experts. The work is high-stakes, which means the standards are high, but so is the pay. The culture is very process-oriented, which suits people who love precision. If you’re fascinated by flight or space, this industry offers a chance to work on projects that are truly awe-inspiring. The security clearance process can be lengthy, but once you have it, you’re golden. It’s a field with a long-term horizon and a lot of pride in the work.
